Relaxation American Style....Ready, set, go!

How about relaxation as an Olympic sport....What would be your relaxation event?

Which way of relaxing is the most fun for you? Does it give rise to anything in particular?

Creativity happens to me....When I am extremely relaxed, like at the end of a yoga class or walking on the beach, creative ideas come popping into my head. It feels like my mind looses all of its sharp edges and blocks. My thoughts merge into a light, fluid space....everything seems possible! Relaxation in any form is essential for my creativity.

Music helps me to relax. Especially the jazz of Miles Davis... Check out this video.  How does it affect you?

  1. OOOOOhh Miles Davis! What is more relaxing than listening to "Kind of Blue." I find jazz in general to be extremely relaxing to listen to (not all of it though!) I have to make sure not to listen while driving sometimes, as it lulls me right to sleep. What is it about this particular form of music that is so calming? Maybe the fact that there are no words, no thoughts. It creates a mood, most of all. A zen space of no mind....When the mind can quiet and just go on a journey with the sax, the base, drums, trumpet, and don't forget the piano. Jazz is so Zen!

  2. Yeah, and its funny how jazz announcers keep that relaxation vibe going. They have all these pregnant pauses in their announcements -- knowing full well how people need that calm energy and mental rest. Radio jazz announcers have gotta be the most relaxing voices to listen to out there!

Yes, the voice itself can calm and relax...it does have that tremendous power. Maybe more so than any instrument. Just the tone and energy of a voice can shift someone's state of mind entirely.....
